“Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.”
– Helen Keller
Putting a great team together is very much like what business owners go through in hiring people to help grow their organizations and businesses. A team is a group of people trying to achieve a common goal. People with big dreams know they need other people to help realize them. They need a dream team. However, in a world where many value pride over service, entitlement over a sense of duty, glory over process and insularity over collaboration, where and how do you find those “perfect” people, with whom you are going to change the world?
So, how do you identify team players to help achieve your leadership goal?
Network: Networking involves going out there to meet people and initiating mutually benefiting associations. Seek to connect with people with the skill sets you desire on your team and try to build genuine relationships with them.
Seek Mentors: Mentors are people who are more experienced in your field and whom you can learn from. The most successful people in the world like Dr. Ben Carson, President Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey all had mentors. These people were very instrumental to their successes. Your mentors have the potential to not only provide you with advice but to also expose you to top quality people and resources to help you achieve your goals.
Commit to A Lifelong Journey of Learning: The quest for knowledge causes you to cross paths with people seeking the same thing – like minds. Your path will likely intertwine with that of other soul mates with whom you can synergize on future projects.
In addition, you must develop teambuilding qualities such as; hunger for experience, contribution and achievement; humility and openness. And soon, you would have a team working with you to achieve your objectives.
